Review: I would like to add my voice to the chorus of approval for the Pure Digital Evoke 2 DAB radio, however, I can't. I can say that most of the comments by others are correct. The reception quality is so much better than FM for the area in which I live, with a noise-free signal, in the main, from a telescopic aerial - I have to use a roof-mounted aerial for decent FM reception. The extra choice of stations is bewildering, but nice to be able to access different genres, such as 6 Music, JazzFM etc. The radio itself is reasonably attractive, compact, and certainly easy enough to use. However, my biggest gripe is with the sound produced by the speakers. It seems to lack top-end, which is unusual for small speakers, one would expect the bass to be poor. I don't know if this is just my radio - I haven't listened to other Evoke-2s - but it sounds rather 'muffled'. Why spend all that money on a digital receiver and then strangle it with poor speakers? I have fed the signal from this radio into a Bose Wave Radio/CD and the sound is fine there, proving that the problem is with the speakers, not the signal, nor the decoder. Now, if there were an Evoke-Wave, that would be a proposition worth buying! |
