Review: The BUG DAB radio boasts so many great features that if you're a radio enthusiast, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Possibly, the Bug's greatest plus point is its ability to record programmes unattended by using an SD card. I must confess that prior to getting my Bug, I had no idea what an SD card was. Now, I'm the proud owner of my very own 256MB card. This has enough capacity for approximately four hours of recording. The Bug is able to format the SD card for recording purposes, and there are several recording options. For example every day, every weekday, every given day or on a one off basis. Entering the recording instructions is a simple matter of following each promp that the Bug gives you. It's all very user friendly. You can even tell it to record with the speakers switched off. So now I can record 'Jazz Line-Up' on Saturday afternoons while I'm at the football!

The Bug also has a five minute (approximately) buffer memory so that the radio can be paused and restarted. You can even "rewind" live radio for the station currently tuned in.

The display screen is nice and big so that menu options and scrolling text are easy to read. You can set two alarms, for example, one for weekdays and one for weekends and you can set different stations for each alarm. If you prefer not to wake up to the radio, there is a tone alarm option. You can even set the volume at which the radio alarm switches on at.

The Bug boasts powerful reception capability. I live in west London and prior to buying my bug, I had a Pure Evoke-1. This enabled me to pick up the national platforms plus the three London multiplexes. The Bug also allows me to pick up the NOW multiplex in Reading, although admittedly with variable quality.

The Bug is very easy to use and you can store 10 stations as presets. There is a snooze facility for the alarms and a sleep timer. You can drift off to sleep to the gentle sound of Classic FM and wake to the less gentle sound of Planet Rock should you so desire.

The only real quibble I have with it is the rather clunky navigation button. This button serves as an enter key, the on/off switch, the scroll button and the volume control. Too much for one button in my opinion.

Overall, though this is a wonderful piece of kit for DAB radio lovers.
