Review: After the disappointment of the Samsung A300 (you couldn't add words to the dictionary, the sunken keys were painful to use) this phone is a refreshing change. In fact, as far as size and sexiness goes, this phone would get five stars. It's a gorgeous little thing. The bad news is that, just like the A300, it's simply too fragile. I lightly banged the phone whilst it was in my pocket, and the internal screen cracked. And, if you read reviews of this phone throughout the internet, you'll find that I'm far from being alone with this problem. The other bad point is the hugely annoying "game show jingles" that come with the phone. Most of them you can turn off by putting the phone into Silent Mode (do you really *need* a Game-Show jingle to play each time you delete a text message..?) but when you next turn on the phone, jingle jingle jingle... it's back again. Trust me, it'll drive you nuts, and there is no way to turn it off. Oh, and strangely, although this phone comes with a dictionary, useful for adding words like "jingle" and "aswell".. it seems to forget these added words after about a month, even if you use them regularly. I'm not hogging the memory with pictures or downloaded tunes, so I'm really not sure why. You'll need to look carefully for the correct Samsung A200 data cable if you want to connect it to your PC, many simply refuse to work with it, and none say it's A800-friendly. However, once you find the right one, there is software freely available on the internet to allow you to unlock the phone, and let you use other phone operators' SIMs. In a nutshell, it's small, so light you'll forget it's there, but (jingle-jingle) just take care of it. Or get insurance. |
