| Review Summary: Historic apartment inside beautiful walled town |
Overall Score: 5/5

|
| Good Points: Historic, town centre location. Low cost. |
| Bad Points: the only bad point is that the apartment is situated above a service route into the town and the Italian bin men create a lot of noise emptying the bins every morning at about 7am. |
Review: We stayed at L'Archetto apartment in San Gimignano, Tuscany in August, 2004 on a self catering holiday to Italy.
The apartment forms an archway over one of the streets in this beautiful, medieval Italian hilltop town and is a lovely and resonably economical way of staying in this lovely place.
The apartment was well appointed with everything we could wish for. Sleeping arrangements comprise a double room and put you up bed in the lounge. There is all the cooking equipment you need although we only made use of this in the morning to make Esprsssos with the lovely Croissante from the lovely bread shop nearby.
The apartment doesn't have a terrace but is inside the walled section of the town so it's easy enough to find a lovely cafe in the Grand Piazza.
The town of San Gimignano is one of the most picturesque in Tuscany. In the summer, a stage is erected in one of the main squares and Operas are performed each week. These are quie expensive to attend, but it is just as nice to sit on the steps informnto of the church and just listen to the music drifting through the warm Italian evening air.
A lot of people visit the town on day trips but staying in the town itself allows you to enjoy the more peaceful ambience in the evening when the locals walk out to enjoy the ambience.
We flew from Coventry to Pisa and then hired a car to enable us to see a bit of the countryside.
We were accompanied by our 10 year old son who had a great time. Although the apartment doesn't have access to a pool, there is a lovely Municipal swimming pool just outside the town (not really walkable) and a number of other lovely pools nearby. The apartment has a good pamphlet full of useful local information.
Eating wise, one of the best restaurants in Tuscany is close to the apartment (renowned for its tradtional medieval Tuscan dishes). |
