Review: Second Sight on the Sony PlayStation 2 is great in almost every aspect but it is way too short and its a sort of machine-gun-conquers-all game, especially on the lower dificulties. there are few (if any) unlockables and i think the AI is pretty poor. try holding a guard hostage and shooting at other enemies, you will see that unlike most new games, enemies will not flank you or try to surround you, they simply stand there. the psi powers are good but your psi-meter runs out way too quickly to achieve a "balance" of the tactics guns and psychic. the missions are very hit and miss, as in if you walk past something you need, you could end up running round an empty level for hours. they also say that stealth is an important thing in this game, but as you get the heal power pretty early on, you can just blast through room, heal, repeat. the telekenesis has been well done, as upgrading it can kill enemies, but this will likely take up most of your psi-bar so you may as well shoot em. the controls are simple but as it pauses for you to switch guns/powers it really breaks up the good gameplay. overall i think this is a good game despite the flaws but it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on Psi-Ops. it is so much better being completely outnumbered and unleashing a huge array of psi-powers than running around in a short cartoon. the grapics for psi-ops are absolutley breath-taking, and although second sight graphics are good, there is just no competition. i would only ever recomend this game to those who are either put off by the much less childish atmosphere of psi-ops, or those that cant get hold of games with 18 written on them. take this from someone who has played through both of them, second sight is good but not good enough. if there was nothing else like it on the market then maybe a 4 star, but never a 5. |
