Review: Some Like It Hot is a sexy, witty comedy full of murder, cross dressing and mistaken identity! You're gauranteed to giggle when you see Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe live life to the full in the Florida sun, providing us with love and laughter (as well as a great soundtrack). The basic plot of the film starts when Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) witness the St.Valentines Day massacre (the gang headed by George Raft) and they have to escape Chicago to save their lives. They join an all girls jazz band, fronted by Monroe, hilariously disguised as Josephine (Curtis) and Daphne (Lemmon). They soon learn that living with a train full of women is harder than they can bear, especially when Joe falls in love with Sugar (Monroe). Whilst in Florida Joe disguises himself as Shell Oil Junior (cue impressive Cary Grant impression) to try and woo Sugar. Meanwhile, Daphne has to try and ward off the advances of the much married barmy millionaire Osgood III. All appears to be going well for the boys until the Chicago mobsters turn up at the hotel for a 'convention'. The boys have to make a quick getaway, but not without Sugar and Osgood! The extras on the DVD are quite good, and the 'Looking back' documentaries with Tony Curtis and some of the 'Sweet Sues' are interesting and give us an insight into the making of the film. This film is a must for all fans of old Hollywood movies, whether you love musicals, comedy and/or the old movie stars. I would strongly recommend this film for anyone because no matter how old or young you are this film has something for everyone. |
