Review: The Sony DCR-HC40ES digital camcorder package, including ImageMixer software, is excellent and thoroughly recommended. Having made the transition from old technology to customisable touch screen menus; I made a brilliant quality video edited with music via ImageMixer to VCD, no problem! Things you are likely to need are an ACC-DVP Accessory Kit, Sony DV Mini tape cartridges (both available from Amazon, but currently on over 2 weeks lead-time) and, eventually, more comprehensive video editing software. If you take a lot of still photos, a larger memory stick is also useful. The video quality and sound recording are truly magic. Things to realise are that stills from 1mb resolution shouldn't be compared with those of 4mb digital cameras, and quality of video copied from analog is only as good as the original source.Compared with my Sony Hi8 'brick', the HC40 does not seem to have such a powerful built-in infrared light, nor can the viewfinder be tilted upwards. Also, operation of the lens cap is not integral with switching on the power, but instead the Sony DCR-HC40ES digital camcorder displays a reminder message! |
