Review: Good points: Sounds fine, small and light, 1.3Mpx pictures fine, useful to have MP3, and useful as file transfer medium. Bad Points: Sony's site (and others) specify things it doesn't actually have (!) NO analogue in, NO digital in (apart from the USB, of course), battery source is limited to SONY proprietary type. Also, European model doesn't have the adjustable graphic equaliser, and the stereo is limited to 2.8+2.8 mW (US/Canada/Japan 5+5); if the source happens to be relatively quiet, this simply will not go loud enough, and I do have good hearing! Also Bad: 'carry case' is a felt bag (!), can't upload existing MD content to the computer, and the now the worst part... ALL of the music content has to be encrypted by the supplied software - or it won't play! - it won't let you do things with your own music. You can't upload from minidisc after writing without deleting it from the minidisc (can't write-protect or it won't do it at all!) - and sometimes it counts the number of times you save your own music and won't allow you to save it again. I would throw the software away if there were a means to record a playable track onto the disc without it! I have to rip and transcode all my CDs using third party software so it is kept safe, and then I have to use SONY's software to store it on disc. A very frustrating affair - if I'd known this before I bought it I probably wouldn't have bothered buying it. |
