Review: The Sony MZ-RH10 Hi-MD MiniDisc Walkman really is a great piece of kit. Having bought into Mini Disc since 1992 (MZ-1) I have bought many generations of players booth portable and 43cm wide. I was disappointed with the MZNH900B I initially purchased from Amazon. After many months the unit had a firmware bug where is could not divide and erase tracks from a disk without corrupting it. Eventually as there was no firmware fix - Sony replaced it with a RH10. I am blown away with how good it sounds and how easy it is to operate. I replaced the remote control with the one from my NH900 (which is backlit and LCD) and the unit is in constant use every day! Battery life (because of the EL Screemn) really requires the rechargeable and an AA if you want to do any mobile recording or editing - otherwise recharging is necessary every few days - although this is no real problem. Recently took mine to Spain - with both batteries in lasted 10 days just playing back a few hours a day by the pool in the sun! Sonic Stage 3 is pretty good too (although it can crash occasionally - there is an "issue" with one of XPs security updates that should be fixed by the time you've updated V3.0 to V3.1 which is suggested). Just don't run too many other applications simultaneously on your PC. This unit is highly recommended - after all i-pods can't record, edit tracks, erase tracks, have removeable disks (I got 339 tracks on a 1G blank) and have changeable batteries! Buy one and join in the fun! You can upload new analogue recordings made from the RH10 to your PC and convert into WAV files too (in the new Hi-MD mode only - not with the 'old' recordings made previously). |
