Review: Just received my new Sony MZ-RH10 Hi-MD MiniDisc Walkman..... something of a disappointment. The first thing that struck me was the size of the player - it is a little larger than my Sony MZ-R900. On playing an MD, I found the sound to be as crisp and clear as I have come to expect from Sony, but not quite as good as my previous MD Walkman. The battery life, compared to my old MD, is significantly less - 13.5 hours compared to 21 hours on my MZ-R900. I found the menu system something of a nightmare to navigate, but the track labelling was fairly straightforward. Another low point was the fact that there is no 'line out' facility. Having owned a MD Walkman since 1999, I expected this to be a standard function, as I had intended to connect my new player to an amplifier to play back through my hifi system. Finally, concerning the remote control - no LCD display - a big let down. The supplied earphones sound cheap, but thankfully this can be remedied by using a decent pair of 'phones. As for the Sonic Stage - forget it! It seems you need a degree in electronics to make use of it. All in all, a rather disappointing experience! |
