Review Summary: Top notch Sony at a bargain basement price

Review: If you're reading this, you're probably weighing up the options of buying a sub £100 dvd recorder or paying an extra £50 for this Sony RDRGX210S. Get this dvd recorder. Solid construction, decent specs and ease of use mark it out as a typical Sony product. Added to this it records both to dvd-r/rw and dvd+r/rw unlike many more expensive makes. It managed to read unfinalized discs from a cheap Sampo-based model and finalized these discs with acceptable results. I found boot up and disc read times to be fairly typical and as for for the cooling fan, it's not distracting. The onscreen display is bland but functional. I liked the fact that you get an estimated time display for finalization. Playback picture quality using scart, component or composite connections is excellent and using the RF loop through, recording from Freeview isn't a problem or a reason to berate Sony. My one quibble is the remote: cheap and unattractive. It won't take much to snap it in two. Also, invest in the best SCART connectors you can (as usual, one is not included).
