Review: After taking into account some more negative reviews here and elsewhere online, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this Sony RDRGX210S dvd recorder. I'm very glad I did, and certainly two of the main points of complaint that others had raised were non existent for me. These points are: 1) The fan. yes it has a small cooling fan built into the back of the unit. Some say it is too noisy. It is at the back, is very quiet (a low hum), only runs when the machine is turned on (not on stand-by), and can't even be heard over the noise of the TV anyway! 2) Picture/Recording quality using RGB Scart connection. It seems some earlier versions of this model had dodgy scart connections that led to a poor signal. Mine doesn't and records/plays in pristine clarity when recording using HQ or SP record modes. I have read that Sony eliminated this problem some months ago, so ignore this point in other reviews, as it no longer applies. This is a great entry level DVD recorder and is ideal for those wanting to replace a knackered, old VCR (as I did). I found the menus easy to understand and there really is a whole host of advanced features including editing your DVD after use, timer, a DV/Firewire port for video cameras and more. Regardless of all this advanced stuff though, you can still simply whack in a DVD and press the record button if your in a hurry – a nice bit of user friendly functionality that has carried over from VCRs! |
