Review: Having started my review above with the comment that 'everything works', this advice might now need to be modified. When you put an RGB signal into 'input 3' on the Sony RDRGX210S Dual compatible DVD recorder (the one one the back that is supposed to accept an RGB signal), the signal that comes out through 'input 1' (the SCART for the TV) is degraded so that it looks like standard composite video. On a moderately decent TV, this is a big drop in quality. This seems to be the case regardless of the source of the RGB signal (I have tried a Humax freeview box and a Thomson Sky Digibox). Even a signal looped through the machine in standby mode has the signal degraded in this way, although bizarrely an S-video simply looped through (via SCART connections) in this way is untouched. Turn the machine on, of course, and th S-video signal is not recognised as the SCARTS are not S-video enabled. No doubt Sony will sort out a fix for this problem, but for the moment, if you need the RGB signal in and out of the machine, proceed with caution! |
