| Review Summary: How Loyalty could cost you dearly at Tescos |

| Good Points: First year premiums low. |
| Bad Points: Tried to hike the premiums in the second year |
Review: I switched to Tesco Home Insurance when they were by far the most competitive company in the cost comparison sites. I haven't made any claims, so I can't comment on how good they are when it comes to paying up, but I can reveal what happened when it came time to renew.
The renewal letter revealed a hike in premiums of about 30%, despite their having been no claims made or changes in circumstances. I called Tesco and asked if they could review this but they couldn't.
Back at the cost comparison sites, Tesco would not provide a new quote and (unfortunately) all the other companies were more expensive.
I wouldn't recommend what happened next to everyone but it is quite interesting. The insurance lapsed (so we were without insurance) and then I tried the comparison sites again. Surprise surprise - Tescos would quote and the premium was the same as the first year of insurance. mmhh. |
