Review: The prints for all of the four movies in this set look better than you would expect for films over 60 years old. There is actually a very short cut in 'Top Hat' but it is nothing important and you shouldnt let it bother you when buying it. Each film has an onscreen introduction by Ava Astaire McKenzie which lasts around 5-8 minutes each where she talks about the movies and reads letters by Fred and even one from George Gershwin that were written during the making of the films. There is sadly no audio commentaries though. The packaging is really nice, although on the back there are a few mistakes. It claims the song 'Change Partners' was written by Gershwin and is in 'Shall We Dance'. This is of course wrong. But I dont suppose anybody really cares about that. All I can say is lets hope for a second box set of Fred and Ginger on DVD, oh and buy this set now! |
