Review: I first saw The Slipper And The Rose as a child, in fact it was made the year I was born (1976), and it has remained my favourite movie of all time. It doesn't matter how old you are, you are sure to enjoy this light-hearted musical version of the classic Cinderella fairytale which includes an all star cast such as Richard Chamberlin, Gemma Craven and Annette Crosbie to name but a few. Although you may think "oh here goes another version of Cinderella", this version should be given a chance because not only does it cover what you were read at bedtime when you were a child, it also has some twists and a slightly extended ending. It makes the story more believable and includes more of an emphasis on the Prince rather than just on Cinderella, her wicked stepmother and ugly sisters (who also put on a cracking performance throughout the film). My advice would be to grab a cup of tea, a box of chocolates and settle down to one of the best fairytale movies of all time. Enjoy the ride. |
