Review: I'm a huge X Files fan, and when I saw X-Files: Resist Or Serve for the Sony PlayStation 2 in the shops I wanted it immediately. Unfortunately several magazines have said it's awful. This is a total lie! The game is BRILLIANT. From the first opening FMV, you can see that this has taken the atmosphere and originality from the episodes themselves. The game recreates the series mysterious air and when you begin playing the game you do feel like youre on an official X files investigation. The great thing abou the game, other than the actual actors doing the voices, is the fact that the plot is so brilliantly put togetehr that both loing term x files fans and regular gamers can enjoy it and not get too confused. It does however, fit seemlessly into Series 7's mythology, and when I say seemlessly, i mean it. The game play is very much like resident Evil, you go round shooting zombies, finding a key for this door etc ect... however there's less stupid puzzle solving. That's not to say there aren't puzzles... but they're not stupid. Remember back in res, when you have to put some kind of emblem ina socket to open a WOODEN door, when it would have been just as easy to shoot it down... or you have to move crates to create a walk way, when in reality you could just shin up the side.... Thiss something that Resist or Serve improves on massivly. ANy puzzles there, are solved by human methods like working out how to get the combination to a bomb using a police officer's tool... or conducting a body autopsy and then working out how to generate a cure for a disease... It's brilliant. Sheer brilliant. There's less concern regarding ammo saving here too... due to the fact it's divided into 3 episodes (that are different for each character) so you can concentrate more on the game then holding back with your trigger finger. There is however one minor problem. Camera Angles and controls. It takes a lot to get used to. The camera seems to change an awful lot, and the control system is: up makes you go up the screen, but hold up and run from one angle to another and youll continue in the directyion you were going, even if its not up screen... confusing isnt it? That aside, it's a great game, filled with lots if nice little bonuses such as FMV, Documentary pieces and notes... Buy it! |
