Review: I already have a Sony DV handycam which is excellent and I have used for years but I bought this camcorder on the recommendation of Computer Shopper to aid in editing and backup of videos with the PC.
It allows me to take old analogue video from my very old camcorder and from VHS tapes and converts them to true DV which goes straight into the firewire on PC. I can then edit this old stuff properly with Adobe Premiere Elements and combine it with newer original DV footage.
Having created an edited movie, I can then save this as true DV back to a tape in the camcorder for archiving. Why? Because it is the cheapest storage method for high quality video, it will last long after a DVD has failed and you cant copy DVD back and re-edit.
At both these functions, AV-DV conversion and DV archiving it is great.
As a camcorder I would say average. Picture quality in low light is poor and there is a lot of noise form the tape transport that gets captured on the recording. However it is very cheap so cant be too critical! |
