Review: I have a rather large Sony Digital 8 camcorder which although six years old, is way way better in every way (apart from size) than this device, it is however cumbersome, hence my reason for this purchase, I must however concede that my Sony was a £750 model at the time
The good things about this device are 1. the price is fair 2. the size and ease of use are impressive, it is no larger than a standard compact camera, something like a Canon S3 for example 3.Mini DV tapes are cheap and it is a well tried and tested format
BUT, 1.The motor noise is really intrusive as it is picked up by the mic, unacceptable to anybody who is remotely "fussy" 2. Video quality is ony "acceptable" with poor colour reproduction (washed out looking) 3. Feels like something out of a christmas cracker
If you are not a particularly fussy buyer, and merely need a cheap reliable basic camcorder to use in brightly lit conditions, then you may possibly find it ok, I would say though spend a bit extra an a higher end model, with a better lens and more acurate colour reproduction
One more whinge...this camcorder has an SD slot and a still photo mode...great idea but it is next to useless, a pointless sales gimmick, most mobile phones will produce a better photo, so whats the point of that ??
I do however like the size and design, I shall return this and get a another model, I probably need to spend at least twice this much...ho hum |
