Review: When first buying this Canon Pixma iP1600 printer I was very pleased with its abilities, especially compared to the Epson we had previously. Its photo printing was of a very good quality, and it is very quick. However, having now had it for only a couple of months, I have found that it needs several episodes of printer head cleaning before it prints without large bands across the print out- particularly bad on images. I am an architecture student, and it is not very economical or a good use of time to have to print out several copies of a picture for my portfolio, before it is of acceptable quality. It would seem that not using it for a few weeks (i.e. going home for Christmas holidays) has caused the cartridges to become irreparably clogged. It was also very disappointing to find that it is not possible to buy 'compatible' cartridges, as the official ones are very expensive, and do not last very long. Refill kits do not work with these cartridges (I discovered this after spending hours drilling away at the cartridge, only to discover the print outs were completely faded in colour). Overall, I'm very disappointed. It would probably be fine if you used it every single day and could afford to replace the cartridges every couple of weeks, but I don't so it has failed me. |
