Review: Bought this Canon PowerShot A570IS for myself just before Christmas and although the original one I ordered had a fault with the display (kept switching off everytime I took a photo) it was quickly replaced and the replacement hasn't failed to impress me. Pretty easy to use, nice clear display screen, not too bad with batteries (I've had worse). What attracted me to it is that there is lots of potential to have more control over your photography. As an ex-SLR user (pre-children!)I liked the idea of this, but also wanted something I could use as a 'snappy camera' for everyday use. Having said that, I've kept it mostly on automatic as this has produced fine photos without the fiddling around. The build is ok, not too plasticky feel, not too heavy and the little hand grip on the side makes it better than some of the compacts for adult hands. Taking photos with or without flash works fine, videos good too. Seems to focus fine though I did find it took a little bit of getting used to and there were a few blurry shots to start with. Some shutter delay which means you occasionally 'miss the moment' but I guess this is a problem with most digital cameras and just something you have to accommodate. One annoying thing is having the instruction book on a CD rather than a paper version as I have neither the time, inclination or printer ink to print out the entire manual! The basic manual is just enough to get you started, but most of the detailed info is on the CD. Hence there are lots of features I am only just gradually discovering! Overall really very pleased with this camera for the price and having used it most days since I bought it would recommend it as a good all-rounder. And also very impressed with Amazon's return service which if it hadn't been for the incompetence of DHL would have been perfect. |
