Review: I'll get straight to the point. This Epson Stylus D78 printer is £35 and produces amazing prints for the money, but you have to ensure you get the settings right. It is noisy but who cares, just turn the music up. If you want to work in silence or have a sleeping baby in the room then buy a different printer. The main thing is that you absolutely must select the correct paper type on the driver software to match the media you are using... it can take a bit of tweaking but once you get it right the results are worth it. If you are using Windows ME or 2000 installation may not work - just visit the Epson website and it tells you how to get around this. It's not the cheapest printer in the world to run - a review I read said 7p for a page of text, which is OK if you're using it for occasional printing rather than every day. I would guess that A4 sized colour photos at best quality are probably 50p-70p a go, which is OK. If you want a printer to use every day in a home office or for printing hundreds of photos then maybe it's not the best choice, but for most people who only use printers in a limited way it's a bargain and can produce very good results when used correctly. Make sure you install and read the user guide - there isn't a printed one in the box (keeps costs down and saves paper I guess) but read it on-screen, it is good and does tell you how to get the best results. I'm sick of hearing people complain that products let them down and they don't even read the instructions - I suppose they think they know it all already but is it just a coincidence that these people all have expensive digital cameras but take terrible photos? In short, at under £35 no-one should complain, and it appears that most of those who do criticise the print quality simply aren't using the printer correctly. Some say it looks old-fashioned... well, maybe it does but I quite like it and I don't spend all day staring at my printer anyway. It is noisy and at best-quality photo setting pretty slow but it all comes down to price - it's a bargain - last time I bought a round of drinks in central London for half a dozen friends it cost more than this printer.
