Review: This may not be a big deal for everyone, but my Dad bought one of these Epson Stylus Photo R265 printers thinking it would work with his linux system (up-to-date SUSE 10.1 with gutenprint 5.0) as so many other Epson printers do. He was assured by the cretins at PC World that it would be a drop-in replacement for his previous one that had just died.
Unfortunately, it isn't. The printer is technically capable of 5760x1440 dpi. If you crank the basic driver beyond 360dpi it just spits out paper continuously. Not good.
The nozzle check utility works perfectly, so it looks like Epson have tweaked their page description language in an incompatible way. Very very frustrating and disappointing. |
