Review: I bought this Fuji FinePix E900 camera as a lightweight backup because it had excellent reviews on picture quality, and, as I already have a Canon digital SLR, I am accustomed to expect good quality images. The images produced by this camera are sharp, as would be expected from 9MP. However, I am not too happy with the amount of purple fringes produced on some images. This is difficult to see in the small LCD image, but on some images can be noticeable when printed. Eg on a picture of pipes on the organ of Salzburg Dom, all the pipes had a purple edge, even though the lighting was subdued and wouldnt be expected to produce such a result. Also when printing, it seems you sometimes have to be careful that a magenta cast isn't produced, and I have spent most of the morning making sure magenta is turned down before printing. The problem is that some images are perfect, while others show problematic fringes. Fuji say this is caused by an "overspill" effect from adjacent pixels, and is normal for a camera in this sector of the market. Well, I never noticed noticed this with my previous 2MP Olympus. Also Fuji will not allow you to send a sample images larger that 4Mb to them for analysis, and on images smaller than this the .jpg compression takes out some of the effect. Take care with your decision, as the memory you purchase will only fit Fuji/Olympus cameras. |
