Review: ... and that is why I am withholding a star. I've clearly got a good one. I was an early adopter with a Ricoh i500 Digital Camera, and I thought it was the mutts nutts, but eventually the Fuji FinePix S9500 started going wrong. This camera in comparison is simply superb, I love the colour depth, people look 3-dimensional, it really takes nice pics of people.
I've took some on a very hot day, near a lake, with rising ground mist, and again, only the most extreme conditions gave me any distortion, the noise making some far-off trees (with the lens on full 300mm zoom AND the digital 2x enabled) look a bit flat.
I've just taken some photos of my colleagues for work ID cards, and all were with flash. To get "portrait" I held the camera sideways, bringing the flash into the same horizontal as the eyes. On the normal flash setting, I did not get ONE red eye.
If you buy this camera, look at it, and think: this should be as good as a dSLR, then of course you'll be disappointed. For me, there are three BIG features. The tilting LCD which enables you to take pics without holding the camera away from your body. The Zoom range. The wonderful AUTO mode which is hard to fox!
Of course none of this would be great if the photos weren't any good. Well mine are. If you get one that takes poor photos, I suggest you get it exchanged. It obviously skipped quality control. |
