Review: I just purchased this Garmin Nuvi 310 sat nav system as a present for a friend of mine and I have to say its been a big disappointment. I had a chance to see it get tested out during a holiday in Worcestershire

The first major flaw is that there is no sensible way of avoiding motorways. It does have the option of avoiding 'highways' but this then excludes all A roads as well as motorways.

The other problem we experienced was that this unit just loves the back roads. Journeys that would normally be straight forward ended up being a nightmare because we ended up going down narrow twisty country roads, one of which had a ford we had to cross.

The bit of advice that some people give is to ignore the GPS's instructions if it takes you down a road you don't want to go. This seems to either result in it trying to force us towards a motorway at every turn or onto some country road. The difficulty can be trying to see if a road its taking you on will turn out to be a country road or not.

Anyhow we ended the holiday with a complete distrust of the unit and just found our own way home.

Will be trying to return this for a Tomtom One. Features like mp3 player are nice but if it can't get you to where you want to go quickly and safely then its pretty much a waste of time.
