Review: This Navman N40i is my first car sat nav, and after A LOT of looking at online reviews and specs, I simply couldn't decide which Sat Nav I wanted. It seemed that all of them lacked something that I wanted - they had street name announcement, but the build quality sounded dubious, they had traffic alerts but they cost £60 a year to have. I finally just ordered one and chose one model down from the one I was about to click "Buy-It-Now" on. It turned out to be this one, and it arrived 14 hours after ordering it. I went out into the garden, turned it on and by the time I'd scrolled through the tutorial 25 seconds later, it came up with my location to within 5 feet or so! It even thought I was in the neighbouring close because I was closer to there than my address due to being in the garden. I had a trip into Manchester an hour later and stuck the postcode in and it plotted the route in about 10s. We set off, and it gave perfect directions for 5 minutes until it said the battery was low and turned itself off! I guess it isn't Drive-Away (tm) as I'd thought. Anyway, I was well impressed with how it worked for those five minutes and can't wait for it to be charged up again so that I can see how it directs me to my Mums house. Initially, I thought it might be too small a screen and regretted not getting the N60i, but I had it mounted at the right bottom corner of my windscreen and it was perfectly visible and reachable to poke at. The voice directions are clear and maybe a little too repeated in that it tells you your next turn, and then again as the turn comes up - I'll just need to go places where I know the way for a bit until I get used to how she tells me to drive. I would recommend this Navman N40i to any first-time user of Sat Nav. |
