Review: The Samsung LE23R71BX is an under-rated High Definition LCD TV. Very good-looking, even before you turn it on. Pictures are sharp, contrast is excellent. Even with "standard" Freeview or other non-HD signals, the quality of the pictures are still first class. But for maximum enjoyment, a High Definition source is essential. At present, you can do this by getting a DVD player that can upgrade a standard DVD movie to HD quality like the Panasonic DMR-EZ 25. It is also a Freeview receiver and is able to read/write on all DVD/SD media. So, you can record all your favourite shows for later. The HD picture quality is truly breath-taking. You have to see it to believe it. All digital photos viewed on the LCD TV is also at HD quality so you can use it this way (as a digital photo frame) in between the movies and TV programs.
Has a Gaming mode for fans of Play Station 3, something that was misssed on the Samsung website so it was a pleasant surprise for me when I got the unit. Sound was excellent but one should not expect home-theater quality at this price range. The in-built speakers are light on bass so addition of a separate sub-woofer is recommended.
Plenty of input ports to hook up all your AV kit. There is also a port for the PC/Laptop monitor if you get hooked to the georgeous screen...
All in all, a very good value for money. A killer combination with the Panasonic DMR-EZ25, turning any living/bed-room into a multimedia/gaming center with read/write capabilies.
Amazon have the best price. John Lewis does it at a higher price with a 5 year guarantee. For more detailed specs, go to the Samsung UK website. Last word of advice, not all LCD TV are High Definiton capable so be careful before you spend your hard earn money. |
