Review: I looked around for ages for an HD ready LCD TV before deciding on this Samsung LE26R74BDX, which had received good reviews from various home cinema magazines. The picture is really good - sharp, great contrast. Our aerial is fairly dodgy and the IDTV works very well with the poor signal. As mentioned in other reviews, the sound isn't great; it does sound a bit like it's hidden inside a cardboard box, but I guess if it bothered you that much you could buy a home cinema system with the cash you saved on the TV.
The best thing about it, though, is the performance with games consoles. The thing that really pushed me to get a new TV was the Wii. I ordered it from Amazon with guaranteed next day delivery in time for friends from work coming round to play on the Wii. I wasn't disappointed. Despite not being a proper HD source, using official component cable, the Wii picture is exceptional. Even the sound is great, especially the cheesy Wii Sports tunes. Have also tried it with an X-box - the picture is really sharp and in games like Half-Life 2, the surround sound means you can hear when people are shooting from behind you and stuff. No idea why the sound is so good from console sources, but mediocre from TV.
All in all, this is an excellent TV. I should really have felt quite bad about spending so much on a non-essential item, but the gaming performance, in particular, means that I would have no qualms at all about recommending the Samsung LE26R74BDX as a great value HD ready LCD screen. |
