Review: I searched for ages for a T.V to play my XBox 360 in High-Def and watch as a normal television, this Samsung set had the best specs and professional reviews that I could find for under a grand. Forget about it being a 'budget' HD LCD, this 32" slice of electronic joy is just about as good as you'll find anywhere. Once Sky was hooked up with a 'monster spec cable', and the picture settings asjusted, I knew I had made the right choice. The image displayed is nothing less than razor sharp and Samsungs 'dynamic contrast' and 'DNie' picture enhancement technology mean blacks are very deep (a problem for LCD displays) while colours and whites appear brilliant and crisp.
It is an improvement in picture quality over my old CRT T.V (a normal tube T.V)and I havn't even ran a live High Def image through it yet! When Sky HD starts early in 2006 I'm in for a real treat!
The XBox 360 looks amazing on this set. It's the same T.V that Microsoft used to showcase the 360 on the 'instore game pods'. Don't be confused by the differently shaped black surround on the 'pod T.V's' as this is exactly what it is, a Dixon group exclusive which is exactly the same screen in a slightly different surround. It's the LE26R51B rather than the 41 but technically it's identical. There is no 'tearing' or 'smearing' whilst images are being displayed and colours and motion are a joy to behold.
About the only drawback with this set is the screen resoulution it can display. The T.V can run either 720p or 1080i. These are two HD resolutions. A normal 'CRT' T.V can display images at 480 T.V lines per second. HD 720p is 720 lines 'progressive' and 1080i is 1080 lines interlaced (540 lines x2). Progressive images appear smoother than interlaced images whilst moving but 1080 is a higher resolution. In the future,dvd players and indeed the PS3 will out put 1080p, 1080 lines progressivly scanned. This is true High-Def and this T.V (and the vast majority of other HD sets currently on sale) will not support this format. If this is important to you then wait, but to be honest I think It's splitting hairs somewhat. I've even read somewhere that the human eye can't take all of a 1080p image's detail anyway.
In conclusion I'd say this is currently the best HD T.V of this screen size in it's price bracket, with outststanding picture quality, loads of connections (2x scart, P.C in, component, HDMI etc. etc.) and a sleek aesthetic design It's my no.1 choice. |
