Review: I bought this Samsung LE40N73BDX HDTV after reading up a lot about LCD -v- Plasma. I bought What Hi-Fi mag, and even though they only gave it 3* i would give it 5* easily. Out the box and setup is easy, the default screen settings are for shops with bright lights so you will need to reduce the brightness and contrast a bit. I found putting the energy saver option to low helped alot. Picture quality from the built in freeview unit is normal, but play a DVD and the picture quality takes a huge leap up. Tones are fresh and sharp, there is a little motion blur, but TBH you realy have to be looking for it. The dynamic contrast can be noticed when the set varies it, but only just. Game play (via xbox360) is another fantastic step up again in picture quality, even from my old CRT. Game mode seems to increase screen brightness but not much more. Everything looks pin sharp and smooth. I was very suprised at the clarity of dark levels in games. The side card readers work easliy, just plug them in and press menu from the remote. The Remote works very well. The volume/programme up/down buttons can be lit so you can easily find them.
Overall the set if fantastic value- Picture quality from DVD's and HD sources is fantastic Freeview quality is just as good as any other set. Sound- i bought the Samsung 2.1 home theatre so cant comment on the sets internal speakers. |
