Review: Ignore all of the bad feedback people give about this Sony BRAVIA KDLS-32A12U 32" HD ready TV, especially the black levels when you move to the side, they've probably been using the builtin Freeview tuner to review the TV's picture performance, which yes is in my view very good, although it depends upon the channel you are watching and how good that channel is broadcast. e.g. ITV broadcasts using more compression on the picture so it looks worse on this TV than say BBC. Watched the first episode of BBC's Planet Earth the other day which was filmed in HD (High Definition) but obviously broadcast in SD (Standard Definition) on Freeview and it looked superb, best programme I've seen on this TV so far.

It's all very well to review a TV using SD pictures, but this TV was built to be a high definition TV, and as we only have Telewest's TVdrive with about 2 or 3 HDTV programmes no one can really comment on the HDTV performance yet.

However there is HD content available on the web, and i've had my Dell laptop hooked up to my 'S' Bravia via DVI to HDMI, and have been running some HD movie trailers from the Quicktime site, and must say they look superb, the compression is still high on these, so I can only imagine when Sky launches it's HD service the image quality will be mind blowing.

There is also a VGA PC conenctor for those without DVI so you still hook your PC upto the TV with MS Media Center, although getting a screen resolution to work at the TV's full resolution is hard, best to use ATI Catalyst drivers along with Powerstrip and create a custom resolution at 1360x768 or 1368x768 and you'll get the full use of the screen

The Down sides of this TV are only very minor, there is no digital/coaxial audio input or output on the TV only standard stereo audio connectors. Only 1 HDMI input, with a raft of new devices hitting the shelves in the next 12-18 months, Sky HD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, all are going to have HDMI outputs, and 2 into doesn't go, let's hope they still allow us to use HD Component at full resolutions.

ignore the bad feedback about picture quality, an LCD of this quality is always going magnify the imperfections in stanard def TV, buy this TV now, get Sky HD or download HD from the net and you'll be blown away by the quality it produces.
