Review: The Sony RDR-GX120 dvd recorder is my first DVD recorder which I bought at the same time as a digital Sony Bravia TV. TV great, DVD sucks. It wasn't clear that it only had an analogue tuner, which means that the product will be obsolete when the analogue switch off comes. The instructions are crap, as they don't tell you how to record a digital signal from your TV if you don't want to record the terrestial channels. After 6 weeks I still haven't managed to do this and have missed many programmes I wanted to record. Also to record at decent quality, you can only count on an hour from a DVD - extended recording speeds give poor quality results. It also takes a long time to power up (c. 2 minutes), so no chance of making an instant recording.
All in all, it has far too many limitations to be of any use apart from DVD playback, which is absolutely fine.
