Review: I bought a 510 GO in March and at the beginning of May it was stolen. I bought another only to find the maps were more out of date than my original. I swapped it for a Tom Tom Go 710 Europe sat nav system as it was thought that this was more up to date (difficult to tell when in a sealed box). Sadly this was not the case. There are roads marked "unnamed road" that were correctly named on the previous device, and there are some roads that have been in existence for 3 or 4 years that it doesn't recognise at all. Tomtom customer support is woeful. It took a week to get an answer from them after having suppplied them with every number under the sun and a copy of my receipt. Their advice was to buy the new updated maps. I would have thought that purchasing a brand new piece of kit, at full price from a reputable supplier, I would have been entitled to up to date software. This is not the case. Additionally, the new maps are too large to fit on the supplied SD card, so I had to buy a new, bigger card. On trying to restore a backup onto the new SD card via Tomtom Home, it just tells me that it "appears to be a different device" (or similar words) and it therefore won't write to the new card. The card has been proved on a separate, different device. So, the advice for this brand new piece of kit appears to be "buy the new maps, buy a new card, and even then you'll not be able to update it" The device itself is very good albeit frustrating by having such outdated maps. |
