Review: The latest Tom Tom One Europe car sat nav system (shows as V4 in Tom Tom Home) does not come with an SD card, the unit has 1GB of RAM built-in now, it's a newer revision of the One. You can use an SD card, but not together with the built-in RAM. That's fine for me though, I've deleted the extra voices and put on the extra POI's that I need. You could copy the contents of RAM out to a 2GB SD if you wanted and put that into the One, if you needed more storage space.
This Europe version has the Navteq maps (mine was v6.60). Usually TomToms have Teleatlas maps. Lots of debate about which is better, but Navteq cover the Channel Islands, whereas Teleatlas don't. TomTom don't advertise the C.I coverage, but it's there and works.
I used POIEDIT to copy the favourites off my old One into a POI, and then transferred that POI onto my new One. I can then leave them as POI's or copy them back as favourites via the One's menu options.
This unit replaces my earlier TomTom One V1. That unit started to play up after 15 months. I will have to see how reliability is on this as my V1 was not great for me. I must say that the latest unit looks very good indeed, nice and small. The car mounting bracket is far smaller than the original. The One now charges via the USB connector and not through the original power socket as found on the V1 unit. This allows charging via a PC/Laptop.
The TomTom navigation system is a doddle to use and I really find it hard to manage without the Tom Tom One Europe car sat nav system when travelling now. |
